Ultimate Guide to Math Curriculum Organization

This post is your ultimate guide to Math Curriculum organization. With the recent launch of Total Math, we’ve turned our attention to all things organization as we have been prepping the three grade levels.

Organization Goals for Total Math Curriculum

Our goals for Total Math curriculum organization are function, affordability, and appeal. We will not pretend it isn’t important that we like the look of the curriculum sitting out in the classroom since it will be something we utilize daily. Part of the appeal of Total Math is the color-coordinating we have embedded in the grade levels. This ultimate guide to math curriculum organization will provide free labels, links, and videos to all things organization. You can also find a video at the end of this post where I talk you through the components.

Step-by-Step Math Curriculum Organization

To begin, we needed to find just the right container for each unit. We settled on the clean affordable option of these white Iris brand medium-size boxes on Amazon (affiliate link). One great feature of these boxes is that they come in a six-pack and there are twelve units of Total Math. We love the simple math on that.

We previously had our eyes on some clear acrylic file boxes that were what Pinterest dreams are made of, but ultimately, we did not agree with the price tag on those (trust, ridiculously priced). Because we are prepping 12 units for three grade levels, we simply needed to find the most affordable option.

Color-Coordinated Curriculum Organization Tools

It’s one thing to have the materials make sense and be easy to access and put away, but we also wanted to have the curriculum make sense across grade levels. We know many educators are teaching multiple grade levels. For this reason, we chose a designated color for each grade level. Kindergarten is pink, first grade is yellow, and second grade is greenish-blue.

Below we have affiliate links to Amazon of the color-coordinated organization tools we used for the three grade levels.

Labels for Total Math Curriculum Organization

If you’ve seen us in a professional development session, you already know labels are our love language. It is no different with Total Math. Our ultimate guide to math curriculum organization has to offer free labels for unit boxes. If you have a different box, bin, or tub idea, you can adjust the size of them in your printing options. The scope and sequence for each grade level of Total Math has binder spine labels too so we are linking those here as well.
